Dear, TYLA Families,
The weather is still cold and the sky a bit gray, and we ALL know that means LACROSSE season must be just around the corner. We want our TYLA families to know that our staff is preparing for another great season and hope to provide a safe and fun environment for your players.
TYLA coaches have just attended the first PCLA coaches clinic to catch up on the latest rule changes, coaching tips, and league directives. We have several new coaches joining our ranks, and we encourage more parents to consider coaching. TYLA is a recreational league run by parents and volunteers. If interested, please email me at email@example.com.
All TYLA players are asked to attend the player assessments on February 21st. These evaluations use 10 metrics to measure a players athleticism, stick skill, and lacrosse aptitude. This is an important portion of the team formation process for the TYLA teams. Lacrosse is a physical sport and grouping players with similar skills and abilities is important for player safety, player development, and a competitive environment.
All TYLA teams will be playing 12 scheduled PCLA league contests, playing two games each Saturday. The league schedule will be posted by 3/01 for the entire season. All TYLA teams will also play in three tournament games at the CHAMPION LaxFest (May 2&3, 2015). The CHAMPION Laxfest will conclude the TYLA recreational season.
NEW FOR 2015
PLAYER BOOT CAMP
All players are encouraged to participate in the February 15th Boot Camp from 1pm-3pm, which will be held at Jesse Wharton. The camp is designed to provide instruction on the games offensive and defensive basics. Some of our local high school players will be demonstrating these basics, and helping to mentor our TYLA players. This LACROSSE 101 demonstration is encouraged for players and parents alike.
All U9 teams will be competing in a 7 v 7 format this season. The objective is to promote lacrosse fundamentals and stick skill development on a shorter field in a faster paced environment. Teams will be smaller and each child will be cycled through the field positions in a systematic manner ensuring equal playing time. This should make for some exciting games.
TYLA has designed and introduced an elective tournament program that will compete in local tournaments when the recreational season concludes. TYLA SELECT is currently slated for the U11, U13, and U15 age groups only for the 2015 season. This reasonably priced program will offer some local games with other Select programs and conduct a few Sunday practices before the post season begins. TYLA SELECT teams will play in three local tournaments, the RAGE 5/16&17 (Hickory), the FRENZY 5/30&31 (Martinsville)), and the SOUTHERN CLASSIC 6/6&7 (Charlotte). Fall try-outs were held in November and the supplemental try-outs will be announced for early March to finalize the rosters.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We are VERY excited to get the 2015 season underway and look forward to coaching your players.
